New Module for Motorway Driving
Following on from the recent announcement by the DVSA, we are excited to say that from June 4th we will be delivering an exciting new instructional module to lessons for motorway driving.
Our comprehensive section will help you develop the necessary skills to become far more equipped than ever to deal with our continually challenging roads.
By encorporating the DVSA Essential Skills, Police Roadcraft publications, IAM guidelines and over 20 years of practical experience, we are confident our additional module in line with DVSA requirements will meet and or exceed your learning experience.
Stay tuned for updates.
Save The Date- 4th June
From Monday 4 June 2018, learner drivers will be able to take driving lessons on motorways in England, Scotland and Wales.
This will help to make sure more drivers know how to use motorways safely.
At the moment, you can only have motorway lessons after you’ve passed your driving test. Some newly-qualified drivers take lessons through the voluntary Pass Plus scheme.
How the change will work
Learner drivers will need to be:
- accompanied by an approved driving instructor
- driving a car fitted with dual controls
Any motorways lessons will be voluntary. It will be up to the driving instructor to decide when the learner driver is competent enough for them.
Until the law changes, it’s still illegal for a learner driver to drive on a motorway.
The change only applies to learner drivers of cars. Learner motorcyclists won’t be allowed on motorways.
Trainee driving instructors won’t be allowed to take learner drivers on the motorway.
Motorway driving isn’t being introduced to the driving test as part of this change.
Making sure road users are ready for the change
The change is being well-publicised so that:
- driving instructors and learner drivers are prepared
- other road users know what to expect
The Highway Code rules on motorways will be updated.
Driving near learner drivers on the motorway
As with any vehicle on the motorway, keep a safe distance from a learner driver in front of you. Increase the gap on wet or icy roads, or in fog.
You should always be patient with learner drivers. They may not be so skilful at anticipating and responding to events.
Driving instructor vehicles and training
Driving instructors can decide if they want to use a driving school rooftop box during motorway lessons, based on its instructions.
The car will need to display L plates on the front and rear if the rooftop box is removed.
Preparing drivers for a lifetime of safe driving
The changes are being made to allow learner drivers to:
- get broader driving experience before taking their driving test
- get training on how to join and leave the motorway, overtake and use lanes correctly
- practise driving at higher speeds
- understand motorway specific traffic signs
- understand what to do if a vehicle breaks down on a motorway
- improve their confidence to drive on the motorway unsupervised after passing their driving test

You Can Buy This Car After Passing
Pass with Compass ProDrive and you could buy the 550bhp rally car you always promised yourself – check out this amazing classified ad. The brutal Italian machine was rumoured to pack around 550bhp holds a special place in World Rally Championship folklore. in its heyday, and was released onto the World Rally stages at the height of the Group B era, when cars’s engines were allowed to put out unrestricted amounts of boost.
But when Henri Toivonen crashed his Lancia Delta S4 at the 1986 Tour de Corse, killing both himself and co-driver Sergio Cresto, Group B came to a grinding halt, with the cars being re-engineered as rally cross cars or mothballed in private collections.
This spare car for the 1986 Rally Argentina has just come up for sale from an Italian seller, and it’s made us seriously question the need for that second kidney. Its one of those mothballed Delta S4s that you can now get your hands on – albeit for a price that we suspect will make your eyes water.
The delicious-looking machine, wearing the iconic Martini livery, appears to be totally unchanged from its ’86 spec, even featuring the original Motorola CB radio and funky Halda Rally Computer.
The spoilsport seller wouldn't reveal the actual price of the car, but considering that a similar Lancia Delta S4 driven by Markku Alen was listed for €430,000 (around £320,000) last May, we don’t expect it to go for anything south of that.
So get calling us and book the start of your skill for life.
